Short and up-close, sometimes in a series

In my small-scale work, I make short videos working with my hands, time, light, outdated technology (such as an electric typewriter) and mundane materials at my disposal. Often based on a prompt I give myself or collected from observations, I consider myself a sculptor of impulse. The camera zooms in at a low angle or above for a birds eye view. My goal is to create moments of dynamic change between action and stillness that spark curiosity and surprise. Objects become performers and move in time to create a sense of mystery, ambiguity, and play. I add a layer contrasting sound, but usually won’t edit the video. Like preparing for a live performance, rehearsal is imperative, and the full-take is key.
